http://travel.discovery.com/
When you open this link you will feel a light sea breeze. See the open sky and sea? There is the breeze. Feel it?
We can see the simplicity of this page. The site designer keeps the content clear and concise so it can be easily read. It is a big site with a lot of content but still simple. This simplicity provides an example of effective design and communication.
Most of the content is hidden in the lists on the left. Instead of chunky text and overwhelming graphics, the headlines and the interesting picture draw your attention. I feel all these elements are well balanced. The empty spots make it look light and airy. The font is easy to read. You can navigate easily through the list, but I wish they had been rollover lists. The increased ease would have been in keeping with the overall theme of relaxation. There is an audio-visual presentation on the right, but only for the people who click on it. Notice there are up-to-date travel headlines floating on the top. That is just above the large photo which is the focal point of the page. The simple logo at the top left offers a quick and easy route back to the homepage and re-emphasizes the site’s Web address. Quick and easy is what it is all about.
I like this page very much.
